The Getty Center

The Getty Center is far and away one of my favorite places to visit in Los Angeles. This last visit was the first time I had been since before covid. Honestly I had been away far to long. I spent 5 hours exploring each building just taking in the art and architecture. While I was there I also had a chance to view the Tim Walker exhibit and to say his photography was interesting does not do it justice. Modern Art in my opinion can be very subjective and photography in general can be a difficult medium for me to interpret. With a lot of the images presented in the Walker exhibit I feel like I had to really stay with each piece to see if what I felt when I looked at them is what the artist was trying to convey. I gotta admit I don’t have an extensive education in Art Appreciation so I’m positive I missed the mark with pretty much every piece. There were several images I just thought were interesting either with the use of lighting, the model specifically or the use of color and texture. Some of the images for example the lens was behind broken glass which I felt was pretty amazing. The fractured glass made for an interesting view of the subject. One of the great things about the Getty is of course the actual museum itself. The building are just beautiful with the garden in the back and a view overlooking LA to your left and the Pacific to your right. Living as long as I had in the San Fernando Valley the Getty to me was the marker that seperated “The Valley” from LA ,the becon that signaled I’m almost home from what ever journey I was on. Even now that I have lived in Orange County for over a decade the Getty still give me that same feeling. I’m almost home.
